Gibson Island Waterfront Home
The owners of this European-style 1920s waterfront home wanted an addition that reflected the grandeur of the original plan as laid out in the early 1900s but with a modern sensibility. The enormous windows, devoid of treatments, offer stunning views and abundant natural light, which dictate the feel of the open plan water-facing main floor’s kitchen, living room, and sunroom. Serene white walls and trim add a sense of continuity and highlight the organic material selections. In the upstairs “attic” master bedroom suite, a four-poster bed gracefully appears to float in the center of the room under the sloping ceiling. The basement is set up for easy living and light entertaining, with a reclaimed bar salvaged from the Gibson Island Boat House. Every detail in the addition expresses the elegance of the adjoining home, retold in contemporary language.
